Competition rules

Objectives of the Award. Elsevier distinguishes the universities whose publications had the greatest influence on the visibility of Polish science in the world. It is defined by the continuous increase in the number of publications in the most prestigious scientific journals, the participation of foreign contributors and the citation in a particular discipline.

Categories. Awards are given in six broad disciplines (OECD classification):

  • Life Sciences/Agricultural Sciences
  • Engineering and Technology
  • Humanities
  • Medical Sciences
  • Natural Sciences
  • Social Sciences

Awarding Principles. Universities are distinguished in particular disciplines based on the algorithm:

  • Percentage increase in publications (weight 10%)
  • Percentage increase in the number of authors (weight 10%)
  • Field-Weighted Citation Impact (weight 40%)
  • Field-Weighted International Collaboration (weight 20%)
  • Publications in Top 10 Journal Percentiles (weight 20%)

The above ratios are calculated on the basis of publications affiliated to the respective university in the Scopus database. The SciVal database will be used for calculations. Institutions whose affiliated authors have published at least 50 publications in the period 2014-2016 are considered. In order for a university to qualify for the award, it must have the right to award the degree of doctor habilitated in the discipline.

The official presentation of the second edition of the ELSEVIER Research Impact Leaders Awards will take place on 27 November 2017 during the gala accompanying the conference “Polish universities in the global perspective - Rankings and strategic management of higher education”.
