Program assumptions

There is a debate going on in Poland on the direction, the higher education and science of the country should go. The strategy "Ustawa 2.0" announced by Jarosław Gowin, minister for science and higher education, foresees the creation in Poland of research universities. This, it is believed, should improve the quality of scientific research and result in its internationalization and consequently lead to the improvement of Polish universities position in the international rankings.

Therefore, it is important and urgent to take a close but critical look at how the problem of accelerated development of the best universities is being approached in other European countries; what management principles and tools are being successfully implemented there, and what are the chances of transplanting them on the Polish ground. It is particularly important to disseminate in Poland other European countries experience in building the culture of scientific research and international cooperation within networks of universities and research institutes.

One of the themes to be discussed is the role of academic rankings that, inspite their shortcomings, are generally considered as proven tool allowing to compare universities and help monitor the effects of modernization efforts they undertake undertaken.

During the conference “Polish Universities in International Perspective” outstanding scholars, European experts responsible for implementation of changes aimed at strengthening the research side of the university, and international experts in international rankings will share their experience with representatives of Polish universities.

The conference is being organized for the second time by Perspektywy Education Foundation, in cooperation with the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (CRASP) and Polish Accreditation Committee (PKA), will be addressed to the top and mid level of university management: rectors, vice-rectors, deans and directors of research institutes. Estimate audience; about 150 participants. Journalists covering higher education in Poland will be invited.

The Conference will take place in Warsaw on 27-28 November 2017.
