How to accelerate the development of universities – experience of implementing the “Excellence Initiatives” in other countries
Chair: Michał Kleiber, Vice-President of European Academy of Science and Art, former President of Polish Academy of Science
Recent years programs of accelerated development for the chosen group of universities known as “Excellent Initiatives” have been initiated. “Excellence Initiatives” implemented in France and China will be presented during the session. In particular, experience in the field of the selecting process of universities participating in the programs, organization of program supervision and monitoring of their implementation will be discussed.

You can and must strive for it through the introduction of systematic pro-quality solutions in financing science and shaping of quality culture in the Polish scientific community. The session will show the context and achievements in shaping of quality culture in Sweden.

Rankings became a permanent feature of the worlds’ higher educational system, but particular disciplines of science and art require different methodological approaches, taking their specifity into account. During the session, the conditions related to the assessment of the quality of artistic universities will be discussed, as well as the requirements for ranking in this area.

International rankings without secrets - opportunities for Polish universities
Chair: Wojciech Nowak, Rector of Jagiellonian University, President of Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities (KRUP)
Publications of the results of subsequent international rankings bring up emotions in Poland, including criticism towards universities. Although the claims are partially justified, the knowledge of specifics of ranking is small in Poland. During the session, three internationally recognized rankings will be presented, which also include a group of Polish universities.
