Congratulations and diplomas for rectors of the best universities and to the deans conducting the best courses, and excellent guests. Włodek Pawlik, the best jazz pianist in Poland (Grammy award winner), gave a performance before the final ranking of the Perspektywy University Ranking 2019 was presented. This was also an opportunity to summarize listings. The jubilee gala took place on June 12 at the Central Agricultural Library in Warsaw.
- This ranking strengthens its special position in the Polish academic world. Thanks to the improved methodology of university classification as well as individual fields of study, it is an important source of information for candidates for studies. The ranking also makes it possible to compare practically "all with all" - the classification includes the vast majority of Polish universities - said prof. Andrzej Stanisławek, secretary of state at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education during the gala.
Congratulating Perspektywy for the twentieth edition of the Ranking, Minister Stanisławek noted that its results were announced for the first time after the Constitution for Science came into force. He reminded that it changed conditions for the functioning of higher education institutions completely, including the quality of education and research, and internationalization.
Among others in attendance: Krystyna Szumilas, vice-chairman of the Parlamentary Education, Science and Youth Committee, prof. Zbigniew Marciniak, vice-president of the National Council for Science and Higher Education, prof. Zbigniew Woźnicki, president of the Polish Rectors Foundation congratulated the best universities and faculties.
The President of the Ranking Board, prof. Michał Kleiber, added that the committee takes into account the voice of the academic community and modifies its indicators. - Now we face a great challenge, because the reform of higher education and science will of course cause us all to make some additional changes - he stressed.
Waldemar Siwiński, president of the Perspektywy Education Foundation and initiator of Polish education rankings, recalled the beginning of this undertaking (inaugurated in 2000) and emphasized the transparency of the Perspektywy University Ranking, as well as an exceptionally large number of criteria (29 in total). He pointed that by reading the Ranking, one can become familiar with not only the general classification, but also with each of the individual indicators assessed by the Board. He also noted that the time has come for intensive work on the position of Polish universities in world rankings, which will be served by the International Visibility Project currently being implemented by the Foundation.
During the ceremony, diplomas were handed to deans conducting the best studies in 68 fields. There was also the Ranking of Engineering Studies, the partner of which is APTIV.
In the second part of the ceremony, the best universities were awarded: state higher vocational schools, private universities (master level) and academic universities. Let's remember: in this year's edition the winners were:
- in the Ranking of Academic Universities - University of Warsaw, ahead of the Jagiellonian University
- in the Private Universities Ranking (Master Level) - Kozminski University (for the 20th time!)
- and in the State Higher Vocational Schools Ranking – The Jacob of Paradies University in Gorzów Wielkopolski (it will be classified in the HEI Ranking next year)
The ceremony was graced with the short concert of the outstanding jazz composer and pianist Włodek Pawlik (Grammy Award winner), who made original versions of compositions of Moniuszko and Chopin, and also played classical ragtime. The performance definitely appealed to a distinguished academic audience.
