In the Perspektywy University Ranking 2023 Jagiellonian University in Krakow shares the top place ex aequo with the University of Warsaw; on the third place is the Warsaw University of Technology while the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan shares the 4th place with the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow.
The best private university in Poland is again the Kozminski University in Warsaw. The Ranking Board awarded the Special Prize “PROMOTION 2023” to the Poznan University of Technology for its spectacular move up from 23rd place a year ago to 12th place in 2023.
It was the first Perspektywy University Ranking that considered the results of the ministerial evaluation of the scientific activity of higher education institutions for the years 2017-2021. While the evaluation results did not fundamentally change the ranking tables, some groups of universities, such as schools of economics, fared slightly worse than in previous editions Along with the overall classification of universities, the Perspektywy University Ranking also included rankings by subject that covers 74 most popular fields of study.
The results of the Perspektywy rankings were announced at the gala that was held at the Central Agricultural Library in Warsaw on June 29. In this historic building Marie Sklodowska-Curie run her first scientific experiments before she became famous and won twice the Nobel Prize. The gala was filled with rectors and deans of the best universities in Poland, also present were representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science.
In search of an ideal university
The Perspektywy University Ranking in its blueprint has a vision of an ideal university - a model that the Ranking Board adjust every year to the changing reality. In answering what students and graduates as well as society and economy expect from university, the Board look for such essential elements as world-class research, presence in the global scientific networks, high quality research and teaching staff, institution’s social mission, and employability of graduates.
Marcin Czaja, director in the Ministry of Education and Science, praising universities for striving for academic excellence, despite the pandemic and the war in Ukraine said: I congratulate the Perspektywy Education Foundation for preparing the university ranking for the twenty-fourth time, and I want to thank universities for submitting to this assessment conducted by an independent organization, because it shows that your primary goal is academic excellence.
- The most important recipients of our ranking are high school graduates - says Waldemar Siwiński, founder of the Perspektywy Education Foundation and creator of Polish educational rankings. – We want to make it easier for young people to choose a field of study and a university. But the Perspektywy University Ranking is also a kind of a "still photo" of Polish universities, taken from a specific angle. Photo that helps us determine where we are, what we should improve, and to what should we pay special attention to in the coming years.
Seven criteria, thirty indicators
Prof. Michał Kleiber, chair of the Ranking Board, emphasized that the Perspektywy University Ranking is second to none when it comes to reliability and transparency: We analyze a record number of indicators, as many as thirty, based on objectified data from various sources, and the classification rules are to all stakeholders transparent and open from the beginning to the end.
Perspektywy University Ranking (Poland) is well known around the world – it was the first national ranking to receive the prestigious “IREG Approved” quality certificate, awarded by the IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence, an international organization founded by a group of creators and analysts of university rankings.
The University Ranking 2023 covers Polish academic schools (public and private) that have the right to award doctoral degrees in at least one scientific discipline and minimum 200 full-time students enrolled. To be included in the ranking, a university must have at least two years of graduates. The ranking comprises 30 indicators grouped into seven criteria: reputation, employability, research potential, innovation, research effectiveness, teaching, and internationalization. This makes the ranking one of the most extensive and most transparent educational rankings in the world!
