Aigerim Balkhashbayeva from Kazakhstan (SWPS University), Safoura Reza from Afghanistan / France (Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences), Włodzimierz Lewoniewski from Belarus (Poznan University of Economics), Justyna Pordzik from Germany (Warsaw Medical University), Snehalbhai Patel from India (Silesian University of Technology) ) and Yasser Faraj from Saudi Arabia (Medical University of Silesia) are the winners of the eighth edition of the Competition for the Best Foreign Student in Poland INTERSTUDENT. The ceremony of awarding the prizes took place on January 29 during the evening gala as part of the conference "Foreign students in Poland 2018", which took place at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice.
Students from Ukraine, Belarus, Vietnam, Germany, Kazakhstan, USA and from Afghanistan, Albania, Saudi Arabia, China, Ethiopia, Gambia, Georgia, Guatemala, Spain, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Colombia, Costa Rica, Lebanon, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Russia, Slovakia, Syria, Sweden, Great Britain, Italy and Zimbabwe took part in this year's INTERSTUDENT competition.
About 72 thousand foreigners from 166 countries are currently studying at Polish universities. INTERSTUDENT competition is directed to them. The condition of participation is the candidate's activity in the local student environment - cultural, social, ecological, sports and good results in science and participation in interesting research projects. Candidates were reported by their professors, university authorities, foreign cooperation offices, student self-governments as well as colleagues.
Out of nearly 100 applications from 30 universities, the jurycomposed of: prof. Marek Tukiendorf, rector of the Opole University of Technology, chairman of the Commission for International Cooperation of the CRASP (chairman of the board), prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk, Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Dr. Bianka Siwińska, Managing Director of the Perspektywy Education Foundation, Michał Gajda, former chairman of the National Doctoral Representation and Tomasz Tokarski, chairman of the Students' Parliament, elected six people whose achievements were considered particularly worth mentioning.
The competition is organized under the Honorary Patronage of prof. dr. hab. Jan Szmidt, chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland. The Partners of the Competition are: Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland, Students' Parliament of the Republic of Poland and National Representation of Doctoral Students.
During the award ceremony, the winners were congratulated by rectors and vice rectors, academic supervisors, jury members, as well as representatives of diplomatic missions of their home countries, including the ambassador of Kazakhstan, Marguan Baimuchan.
